Former Arlington Youth Football Coach Facing 10 Years in Prison for Sexually Abusing 12 Year-Old Boy

Tarrant County, Texas - Carlos Alberto Guzman, a former youth football coach in Arlington, Texas, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing a boy under the age of 14 in 2017.

Guzman, 44, was arrested in July 2018 during a traffic stop and subsequently took into custody after a lengthy investigation. Arlington police received an initial report from an adult in April 2017, expressing concerns about Guzman’s interaction with a particular child. The child was a 12-year-old boy who Guzman was familiar with.

Guzman was a former youth football coach in Arlington, and ex-football project committee chairman for the Optimist Club of Arlington. According to Optimist Club of Arlington officials, he left the club in 2016 after the football season, and no allegation of misconduct was presented to any Optimist Club member while or after Guzman was affiliated with the football program or club.

Court records indicated that Guzman committed the offense on April 11, 2017. Guzman was charged with indecency/fondling last month in Criminal District Court No. 4 in Fort Worth.

A possession of child pornography charge against Guzman was dismissed as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
