Man Shot, Killed by Police After Slow-Speed Chase in Arlington, Texas, Investigation Underway


Arlington, Texas - A man was shot by Arlington police following a slow-speed pursuit in Southeast Arlington Wednesday afternoon, October 20, 2021.


Around 2:30 pm, APD officers responded to a report regarding an an SUV was stopped in the middle of the road near Pioneer Pkwy and Daniel Dr. Nearby residents reported that the driver appeared to be slumped over the wheel.


According to police, officers attempted to speak with the driver, instructing him multiple times to stay where he was. The driver allegedly did not comply and drove away.


Officers pursued and attempted to pull the driver over. He stopped briefly and officers told him he was under arrest for Evading and that he should turn off his vehicle. The driver allegedly did not comply and drove away again.




The pursuit ensued again, with the driver ending up in Carla Court, where the roadway dead ends into a cul-de-sac. According to APD press release, the driver then made a U-turn and began driving in the direction of one of the officers, who had exited his vehicle. As the vehicle moved towards him, the officer fired multiple shots at the SUV, striking the driver.


A second officer arrived about the time the shots were fired, with both officers reportedly performing life-saving measures on the driver until paramedics arrived. The driver was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries.


APD reported that two separate investigations are currently underway – a criminal investigation to determine whether any criminal offenses were committed during this incident and an administrative investigation to determine whether department policies were followed.


The identity of the decease man has not been released yet.
