Two New Attractions, Park Changes Coming to Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington for 2022 Season

Arlington, Texas - The beloved Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington is getting two new attractions later this year: Pirates of Speelunker Cave and AQUAMAN: Power Wave.

The Pirates of Speelunker Cave is a re-imagining of one of the park’s first attractions, The Cave, that operated from 1964 until 1991 and will replace the current version of the attraction—Yosemite Sam and the Gold River Adventure.

Pirates of Speelunker Cave will feature:

  • 26 six-passenger boats;

  • State-of-the-art animatronics throughout the ride experience; and

  • Cinema-style, wide-projection technology to fully immerse riders with high-tech digital and physical sets

AQUAMAN: Power Wave is a multi-launch water coaster that suspends riders in a 90° angle before hurtling them across the more than 700 feet of track at 63 miles per hour, ending in a water splash. It will be replacing the previous AQUAMAN ride, “Splashdown”, in the USA section of the park and will become the 15th coaster at the famed Arlington, Texas location.

Along with the new rides, the theme park will be new systems and processes, including a new streamlined entry process.

The individual metal detectors have been removed and upgraded to a new system, the old ticket booths have been removed and will now serve as the entry point for scanning your passes and tickets and the old ticket/metal detector plaza has been torn down.

Last year, the theme park increased its security and safety measures after the fatal shooting of 16 year-old Dai’trell Teal in June at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor.
